In issue 14 of TFP magazine; Knock Out and Breakdown take over a game show, while they’re on a date.

I want SO BADLY to read this entire issue. Just because of the fact that KOBD went on a date and it involved tormenting Autobots.
LIKE WHOA. Holy shit lookit that panel with the remote. That’s fuckin’ gold right there.

Man, I wish this had been animated and part of show canon. Some mindless fun like this would be great, a nice break from the grim and gritty, and even make the grim and gritty more stark in comparison.
But yes, I want to see this comic now!

Honest question why is this more enjoyable than the show?
Like. Besides that Breakdown isn’t ridiculously dead?

Because drama 24-7 isn’t the best thing ever.
You seriously need something fun once in a while—yes, even for the villains. Check out Avatar the Last Airbender and Batman the Animated series, they had their plain old humorous episodes with the antagonists just being amusing while still being in character.
This comic has this real charm to it, this real humor and genuine fun, while still somehow fitting the world and characters—this could’ve happened. KOBD could’ve just been this fun, and the Bots in this eccentric situation.
Having real humor and light in a bleak situation really makes it shine. And actual bouts of humor and light make the darker moments mean something more.
And, y’know, focusing on the characters you have, rather than offing them and replacing them, and then even offing the replacements and bringing in more new ones. At a certain point, better to develop what you have than just keep dismissing and adding and rinsing and repeating that process.
GAH I NEED TO READ THIS WHOLE COMIC.

I very much dislike when people insist that Knock Out is only some sort of mad scientist or crazy torturer or dissection-nut or whatever.

Yes, he has that “break them rather than fix them” line. And that means… what, exactly? That he prefers fighting over doctoring? That he takes people apart after they die for their parts? Before they die? That he’s good at surgery, which involves taking things apart? Is he maybe not much of an internist and prefers out-and-out surgery?

Who the hell knows. It’s a line that happens once, is never referred to again, and we move on.

And honestly? As someone studying medicine?

A lot of us legit enjoy dissection. Not because we get some sick pleasure out of it, but because we find anatomy interesting. I enjoyed dissecting a dog first year of vet school. It was fascinating. I also enjoyed dissecting a lot of other things. Doesn’t mean that I’m some nut who hunts things down and rips them apart while they’re alive.

I prefer to actually look at what he does during the series when he’s not fighting Autobots.

And there’s a lot there: the fact that he’s the chief Decepticon physician, and they’re not all walking around falling apart, the fact that he repairs Megatron and Breakdown and Starscream.

But my favorite, go-to situation for this is Shadowzone.

Twice during Shadowzone, Knock Out shows a legitimate concern for Starscream’s wellbeing: first when he gets up out of medbay too early, and second at the very end, when he tells him he should look after himself better. Like, there’s no reason for him to say such things and show concern beyond… actual concern.

Call me crazy, but the sense I get from these scenes, due to vocal tone, body language, expression, etc, is not “evil dissection specialist parading around as a doctor.”

It’s more “guy is who is a legitimate doctor.”
