It’s really terrible when people begin to compare Asami’s struggles with Zuko’s and claim that Zuko is the best of the two because he doesn’t constantly whine about his dad.

Let’s forget the fact that comparing one’s experiences with another is totally shitty for one second. Yes, Ozai had done worse and barely considered Zuko a human being, let alone his son, but Zuko always knew that his father didn’t care for him. As harsh as this may sound, he was used to his father’s poor treatment since this was something that he had gone through from the very start.

Asami, on the other hand, is completely blindsided. She spent 18 years with Hiroshi thinking that she was daddy’s little girl. They went through the pain of loss together when Mrs. Sato was killed. They were supposed to be a team. To find out that your best friend is on the other side, on a side that you can’t relate to and that he can’t back out of, can cause a sudden and jarring rift between a father and a daughter. When Hiroshi tried to kill Asami, Asami had to quickly accept that her father was not the man that she had known for all her life.

I’m not here to invalidate Zuko or Asami’s struggles. Their experiences are far too different. However, I will say that at least Zuko had friends to pat his back and give him hugs. Asami didn’t have that. She was left alone as people constantly doted over Korra’s feelings.

No…Asami has daddy issues, all right.  Entirely fucking justified daddy issues.  Anyone who faults her for having daddy issues…well, see OP.

Also, side-eyeing the hell out of anyone claiming Zuko “whined” less than Asami did.
