I find this highly appropriate due to recent discussions, and I’m not sorry in the slightest.
With most of the discussions that I have seen for MTMTE so far this is really accurate.

Moment when I really wanted to punch him in the face, exhibit #002
Lmao he has the charisma of a 15 year old, complete with pass-aggro “wow um okays”.
It makes no sense to me why people follow this tool, particularly when his skillset doesn’t exactly compensate for his lack of charm. People die unnecessarily a l o t under his command.
Also, people do get medals for being in charge. Maybe I’m just getting this out of context, and all, and that’s actually “the joke”, but. People get the Medal of Honor for leading assaults and patrols and so on.
I think the joke is that people don’t give themselves medals for being in charge. :P
(It’s so funny how fandom works. XD He’s getting all this hate, but I’ve loved Hot Rod since the 1986 movie & his MTMTE incarnation is one of my favorites. Ha ha.)
But it’s talking about the actions specifically you’d earn a medal for, though. He’s not saying like “it’d be ridiculous to give myself a medal for being in charge”, even if he is actually saying giving it to himself, the focus is on the ACTION that deserves a medal, (carrying a sword, using a force field, being in charge).
I’d like to like him! I wish the text would make more of his being a self-absorbed tool so I could like him. But while it’s playing him off as an amazing dude who can do no wrong while doing and saying things that range from questionable to totally incorrect, I can’t like him. It’s the incongruity that gets me.
Yeah, I would probably like him much more if he got all the shit he sort of deserves as consequence for his reckless, harebrained “plans” and his downright awful decisions all around….
But so far, even with his crew dying around him, he hasn’t even considered that it might be his fault, AT ALL. He has been asking “WHY do people die under my watch? People shouldn’t die under my watch [because I’m so awesome]!” So I’m really itching to punch him whenever he just… strokes his ego and other people suffer because of it.
#15 spoilers: I’m hoping whatever happens with Magnus truly and finally destroys whatever fantasyland of self-absorbed invincibility he’s been living in. He might have magical plot armor and the devil’s luck for absolutely no reason/merit of his own (he’s the chosen one, why? BECAUSE.) but his crew does not, and it’s about time he realizes it and changes his tune a little :Y
Funfact: when the series began, I had a lot of faith in Roberts to portray Rodimus as the kind of guy who goes through a lot of changes, character evolution, to become a better leader than the mech who started the whole trip originally reading borrowed inspirational scripts, parroting “til all are one” over and over and making irresponsible decisions.
Let’s remember this is the same guy who cared more about not being called Hot Rod during a potentially lethal hostage crisis than trying to make sure his crew was safe - never addressed. This is the same guy who attacked a Decepticon outpost without even a farcical attempt at diplomacy - never addressed. The guy who belittled organics and organic rules in other areas of space like he had a right to be anywhere he wanted and nobody should care at all about the immensely destructive four million year war waged by his species - never addressed. The guy who immediately blamed Cyclonus for decapitating Red Alert and failed to read him his rights or even make token motions toward treating him as potentially innocent - Never. Addressed.
And this is just off the top of my head, I’m sure if I went back and looked I’d find a dozen more instances of missed opportunities.
The only people who ever even TRY to hold Roddy to account are the ones portrayed as strait-laced no-fun-allowed won’t-even-smilers like Ultra Magnus.
It grates on me. I think his character arc could be really good.
Every time I see this version of Rodimus I want to throw him back to Cybertron and have Ultra Magnus become leader in the Lost Light instead. This guy is such a obnoxious person and horrible leader that it’s not even funny. I tried to give Roberts a chance with this character, but I ran out of them.
All of this stuff has been happening and Rodimus doesn’t seem to get it in his head that he is part of the problem and that he will have to stop making stupid decisions all the time. With all messes that happen every time he’s in command I would never trust Rodimus with leadership or any kind of power ever again.

To emphasize the problematic aspects of MTMTE’s views on mental/emotional illnesses/disabilities, I want to tell you all the stories of two of its aneurotypical characters over the course of the series.

I shouldn’t be wasting any more of my breath, time, or energy on James Roberts—I should really be spending my time writing the next chapter of my fanfic. However, given that I’m saying goodbye to reading MTMTE after this latest issue, I feel like I should go out with a bang and review More than Meets the Eye 15: Under Cold Blue Stars in a rational, non-capslock screaming way.
So I’ll begin this review with a single sentence—
James Roberts has lied to us and let us all down.

Cute dragons to cheer me up from sad Cybertronians
Did I do it right.
I personally call this meme “SHITTY CAPTAIN RODIMUS”.
From what I have seen of MTMTE so far this is pretty accurate.
